In 1914-1918, the front of the First World War took place on its territory, in 1917 the February bourgeois-democratic Revolution broke out, and in the autumn of the same year, the October Socialist Revolution won on the territory not occupied by the Germans, although for a short time. In 1918, the Latvian people fought for the restoration of Soviet power, which was suppressed by the German invaders.
