More than five years have passed since the center has been engaged in strengthening relations with Arab colleagues, cooperating with the Organization for Education, Science and Culture of the League of Arab States (ALECSO) and with leading centers of individual Arab countries, with which the Institute of International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences has signed or is planning to sign protocols on scientific cooperation.

The most significant initiative of the Arab League is the proposal to hold an international conference on the Middle East settlement in Moscow. At the beginning of 2010, such an event was supposed to be held under the auspices of ALECSO in Damascus, where a delegation of scientists from Russia was to go (in November-December 2010), for which we carefully prepared. The Arab initiative to move the joint event with us to Moscow was apparently initiated at the Arab League field session in Libya in September 2010 on the Israeli-Palestinian dispute over the construction of Jewish settlements in the Palestinian territory, where the development of an all-Arab position (to continue or not to continue negotiations with Israel) was postponed for two months. They considered it appropriate to hold another meeting of the Arab League, but this time in Moscow at a higher level, to call on Russia to step up its peacekeeping efforts to find new initiatives in the Arab-Israeli confrontation, which threatens a new war in the Middle East.

The tendency to raise the level of humanitarian ties between the Arabs and the Russian Federation was evident in 2010 not only in the actions of the Arab League, but also on the part of individual Arab countries. For example, in February 2010, the head of the Lebanese-Russian House, Professor Suheil Farah, visited the Institute of International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He said that Balamand University, which operates in northern Lebanon, has created a department of "Russia and Orthodoxy", which studies Russian cultural heritage in the Middle East. Appreciating this initiative positively, we donated to this department books published by the Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences (30 titles), and expressed our readiness to strengthen cooperation with our Lebanese colleagues and representatives of the Russian-speaking community in Lebanon.

At the third annual conference of the Association of Russian Compatriots in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), held in Dubai in September, speakers proposed, in particular, to open a Russian school for Russians living in the UAE at the Russian Embassy and a cultural center at the Russian Orthodox Church (construction of the church will be completed in the Emirate of Sharjah in 2011).

Russia's relations with the UAE have been developing very intensively in recent years, including in the scientific field. Thus, by the decision of the Academic Council of the Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Director of the Institute, V. V. Naumkin, presented on June 21, 2010 the diploma of Honorary Doctor of History to the Arab philanthropist Jumaa al-Majid. His research center in Dubai has a library of books published by the Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences since 1950. (several hundred items).

The Documentation and Research Center of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi stores documents about the stay of Russian warships in the late XIX-early XX centuries. It employs specialists from Europe (40 people) who translate documents, but there is not a single specialist who translates Russian archival materials of those years into Arabic. Apparently, there is a need for more active cooperation between the Institute of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Academy of Sciences and colleagues from the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf, especially since our compatriots have opened more than 300 different representative offices there.

At the end of September, the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Rabat hosted a round table on the topic "Russian as a tool for preserving spiritual culture in a modern "mixed family" " with the participation of Moscow orientalists and local Russian-speaking activists from the organization "Compatriots", supported by the Moroccan authorities. There was a presentation of a number of books on this topic, among which the work of N. L. Krylova and S. V. Prozhogina "Gender aspects of conflicts "(Moscow, 2009) aroused considerable interest of those present.

In recent years, the number of translated publications of scientific works of Russian authors into Arabic and Arabic - into Russian has increased. The beginning of this (after almost 20 years-

The Supreme Council for Culture of Egypt, which published several editions of the Institute of Culture of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Arabic: A. Z. Egorin's monographs " Egypt of Our Time "(Cairo, 2006) and A. N. Belonogov's "Ambassador to the Land of Pyramids" (Cairo, 2009). In 2010, A. Z. Egorin and G. V. Mironova, The Senussi in the History of Libya (Moscow, 2006) and the collective monograph " The Middle East: A Business Trip to War. The Soviet military in Egypt "(Moscow, 2009). The Egyptian translation initiative received a positive response from the Union of Arab Writers and the Russian publishing house Byblos Consulting, who, with the assistance of the Russian-Arab Dialogue Center, signed an agreement to publish 100 works of contemporary Arab writers in Russia in Russian for seven years. The head of the ARE printing house, Salim Asad Ali, said that 20 works from Egypt, Syria, Morocco, and Saudi Arabia have already been translated into Russian. The Union of Arab Writers, which has a representative office in the Russian Federation, has been operating in the Russian market for three years, and this joint Russian-Arab literary event is being held for the first time in the recent history of the two countries.

Our Arab colleagues express their wishes that round tables, symposia, and discussions on topics of mutual interest should be held alternately in Russia and in Arab capitals on a regular basis. Thus, the Royal Institute of Amazigh (Berber) Culture, King Hassan II University and the Archaeological Institute in Rabat offered to hold a meeting on the topic "Sahara: a view from Russia".

Three reports were prepared for the scientific seminar on Berber topics in Hoceima, as well as at the two above-mentioned universities in Rabat: D. V. Mikulsky "Berber topics in Soviet and Russian scientific literature", A. B. Podtserob "The Sahara: the first people and the first drawings", A. Z. Egorin " Rommel's Russian Slaves in the Desert The Sahara during the Second World War." But due to the eruption of a volcano in Iceland, which destabilized air transportation, departure to Morocco was not possible. The reports were read out by representatives of the Russian Embassy and the Russian Center for Science and Culture and were highly appreciated.

In November, Kazan hosted the All-Russian scientific and practical conference "Russia - the Middle East: History and Modernity". The organizers are our center and the Institute of Oriental Studies of Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University with the participation of Arab guests invited by the Tatar government and the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan. 12 reports were read and opinions were exchanged. A. Z. Yegorin and A. B. Podtserob participated from the Institute of Applied Mathematics of the Russian Academy of Sciences (they made reports, answered questions, and held meetings with university teachers). More than 30 books published by the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2009-2010 were donated to the Institute of Oriental Studies of the University.

The center continued its active cooperation with Russian and foreign electronic media-Al-Jazeera, Rossiya Segodnya (English and Arabic) TV channels, Mayak and Golos Rossii radio stations, as well as with the editorial offices of a number of Russian and Arab newspapers (Vremya Novostei, "Izvestia", "Gudok", "Kommunist", "Kommersant", "Al-Ahram", etc.).

The Moscow-Tripoli teleconference, which was organized for the first time, caused a positive response and numerous responses. Russia was represented by A. Z. Yegorin and K. A. Koshev (Russian Committee for Solidarity and Cooperation with African and Asian Countries), and Libyans were represented by well-known publicists in the country. Issues related to both Russian-Libyan relations and international issues were discussed. The teleconference was broadcast to the Arab world and repeated several times during the first half of 2010.

And quite new for the center's practice was the preparation and publication of two TV lectures by A. Z. Yegorin - " Republican Egypt (1952-2010) "and" Modern Libya", which was done at the request of Ukrainian colleagues in Oriental studies from Lugansk State University.

Special attention was paid to events dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the end of the Great Patriotic War and World War II. Among them, I would like to highlight: interviews and documents of A. Z. Egorin, used for the preparation of the film of the Moscow youth film studio (School N 653. The film took 3rd place at the Moscow-wide competition of school films about the Great Patriotic War); "Bryansk Forest: the "second front" of the Great Patriotic War "(interview-film by A. Z. Egorin of the school's studio No. 1450. The work won a prize for the novelty of presenting historical materials); "The Great Patriotic War through the eyes of a combatant" (report by A. Z. Yegorin at the solemn meeting of the Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences); "The North African Campaign (1940-1943): A view from Moscow" (report by A. Z. Yegorin, read at the Russian Houses of Science and Culture in Cairo, Alexandria, Tunis and Rabat); speech by A. Z. Yegorin at the Embassy of Egypt in the Russian Federation at the presentation of the book "Stalingrad-El-Alamein: history and lessons" (Moscow: Institute of Military History, 2010).
